Frequently Asked Questions

What is the objective of the “Building Boldly for Jesus” capital campaign?

The Forest Lake Church family is experiencing the outpouring of the Holy Spirit as we engage in ministry within our church, community, and across the world. It is an exciting time for us individually and collectively as we see the Word spread far and near. Lives are being changed and hearts drawn to Jesus as a direct result of our commitment to His work. “Building Boldly for Jesus” is our commitment to be “a light unto the world.” The mission of the Forest Lake Church — to teach the Word of God, lead people to Jesus and help others to do the same — speaks to the spirit of the campaign. Our responsibility now is to prepare a place where our mission can be fulfilled.

What will be funded from the campaign gifts?

Careful study has been given to the facility needs of our church. The master plan as approved by the church board and business session of the church provides for the acquisition of five acres of land to the west of the church property, site work for additional parking and improved access to the church, a new sanctuary, additional Sabbath School rooms for children and adults, and support space for our music ministry and other ministry groups. The construction will take place as funds are available.

Why do we need the proposed new facilities?

With a growth in membership, attendance and the active participation of church members in ministries, our physical facilities have been stretched beyond capacity. The worship facilities, classrooms and individual ministry groups do not work effectively. Access and parking are no longer adequate. Quite simply, we are out of space to meet our current needs and responsibly provide for the future.

While Sabbath mornings are the most obvious time to observe the strain on our facilities, the campus also serves ministry groups throughout the week. Additional needs are also present for prayer services as well as Gift and Thrift, Prayers and Squares, music programs and practice sessions, Hope Sabbath School, pathfinders, youth programs, children’s programs including Adventurers’ Club and Vacation Bible School, counseling services, and Crown Financial Ministries. This is just a short list of ministries on our campus each week.

Will Forest Lake Church borrow financial resources for any phase of the project?

The plan approved at the church business meeting anticipates no borrowing of funds and relies solely on contributions from our church family. Any change in this plan would be presented to the church body before proceeding.

How will the church body be kept informed of campaign developments?

The “Building Boldly for Jesus” campaign will use a broad range of communication avenues. Teams are already assembled to work closely with church groups and ministries — from our children’s divisions to teens, youth and young adults, as well as our entire congregation and church membership. You will be frequently updated through brochures, flyers, mailers, a website, videos, personal contacts and church meetings and gatherings.

When will we build the proposed building?

A project the size of which we are planning will progress in steps and stages. The first step includes the purchase of land, site development, additional parking and the architectural planning for the worship center and classroom facilities. The pace at which we move will be consistent with the funds available.

What are the hired stewardship consultants providing Forest Lake Church that we, as a church body, cannot provide?

Experience is the greatest resource that a consultant brings to any program. InJoy Stewardship Services has lead out in our campaign design, provided instruction to our campaign teams, provided a web-based communication tool, and other valuable campaign resources.

Will my commitment towards the campaign be public?

Confidentiality is the cornerstone of our church’s stewardship program. Your contributions to “Building Boldly for Jesus” will not be shared or made public in any way.

Can I change my commitment at a later date as my heart leads or God blesses?

Your commitment is founded on a relationship between you and God. Through God’s blessing, your increased commitment will be greatly welcomed and a benefit to His work at Forest Lake Church.

May I give non-cash gifts to the campaign?

While cash is the most prevalent gift, your contribution of other marketable securities (stocks, bonds, etc.), real estate, and in-kind services needed for construction will be welcomed.
